Learning to write

I'm currently writing a book about personal finances. I believe getting familiar with personal finances is one of the things that can have the highest impact on one's life.

I don't have huge plans right now for the book, I'm probably going to self-publish it and hope to make a few sales here and there. The goal is mostly to have something I can point to when acquaintances ask me about personal finances and something to gift to my boys when they get older. It's also a sort of creativity outlet.

One struggle I have is that I've never written more than a couple of blog posts here and there so writing consistently is difficult for me. What has work for me for the past few weeks is to use a timer (I use a small time timer), turn on some background music (I'm currently a big fan of this Deep Focus Lofi music) and start writing.

I also have to remind myself that I'm not trying to write the final version right away. Right now, I'm just trying to dump as many ideas and words into a Google document. I know what subjects I want to cover, I'm just filling in the sections. Once I'm done, I'll reorder sections, trim stuff out, polish and eventually format the whole thing.
